Not Someone Else's Blog

FaceBook

I find Facebook to be a very interesting tool for social interaction. I was rather late getting on the bandwagon and did not even create an account until January of 2011. I was initially extremely surprised at the friends I was recommended since they were comprised of a very interesting mix of former coworkers, clients friends and family. I was rather shocked and somewhat creeped out that this website could be so accurate in its ability to know the people I was already acquainted with. This does obviously raise the question of security of information and privacy. I am not a terribly private person in that I do not mind if people know information about me, however not everyone feels the same way that I do. This is probably the main reason that Facebook does offer its users the ability to pick and choose who can see aspects of their information and even the ability to block users with whom you do not wish to interact with.

Since creating my account I have reconnected with a great many people whom I have recently and not so recently gone to school with, worked with and played sports with among other activities.  These connections have led to great conversations, a great many photos and good times shared in addition to a few vacations. This to say the least started somewhat of an addiction to led to keeping a web browsing window open quite often so that I could be absolutely up-to-date with my Facebook account

It has only been a year since I created a Facebook account and I now no longer even check it unless I receive a red icon on my phone that showing a notification about something new to my Facebook which I rarely even respond to and only check so that the notification will go away. I still keep my page active but I do not have the desire that I once did to be connected with it on a constant or even regular basis. My attitude towards this tool of social connection has changed quite significantly but the fact still remains that it is an excellent form of maintaining friendships and relationships. You can connect with friends and family anywhere in the word you can find an internet connection with which access your Facebook page.

Facebook currently has over 800 million users worldwide,  generates over $4 billion and is worth over $40 billion which is quite amazing considering the fact that a college sophomore at Harvard named Mark Zuckerburg created the site only a mere eight years ago. 100 million users per year gained is quite impressive in my book.

I have not kept a journal or diary for quite a long time but I am not surprised to find that the idea has reached the digital age and employees are now keeping journals in the form of workblogs. I think it is interesting that some people have created anonymous blogs in which they share the best and worst parts about their jobs.

  1. Hi, Chris — the personal reflection is fine but you do need to link it clearly to a reading. I don’t see the linkage.
